Last saturday I pretty much sporadically decided to partake in Toronto's first No Pants Subway ride. If you haven't heard about it already there is a group called Improv Everywhere who hosts these massive public scenes. The thing started in New York but has now branched off into cities all over the world.
On January 12th I was planning on heading downtown to goto one of Meghans (an uber friend, and school friend, and friend friend) awesome gatherings. I saw on facebook about the event and was able to get a ride to the scarborough RT (I live in Pickering right now and yes its annoying.) I made it to the Dundas West subway stop about 30 minutes late just as everyone was entering the subway. I had missed the meeting in the grocery store parking lot and had no idea what the plan was.
I meet up with Joe Trembley, Meghan Hein, JJ, and some other people who I didn't know at the time. To my surprise our little Ryersonian group was being tailed by a Toronto Star reporter and a couple photographers. I found out after the plan was that each group was assigned a subway stop to "de-pants" at but my peers said the hell with it and "de-panted" immediately and entered the next train. Failing to do so in time I entered the train and preceded to take off my pants on the train. Something only a creep would do under normal circumstances this act pushed my comfort level a bit.
The goal of the No Pants Subway ride was to not wear pants and act completely nonchalant as if nothing was going on. For me this meant keeping pretty quiet and trying hard not to laugh. We covered lots of ground and ran between trains at each stop. During one of the changes one of our group members was left behind and ended up being the only one not wearing pants on one train. (he must have felt stupid, and put his pants back on)
The hour went by quick and then we went to a bar. Many pitchers later we met this circus performer who juggles flaming chainsaws and rides a 10 foot unicycle. Other random people. Drinking and whatnot, you know a typical saturday night. Of course it ended with Big Slice and sleeping on a pile of beanbags. While being poked and joked about by Meghan’s roommates and friends. “whose this guy” hey its “Jimmies Brova why don’t you sign for us.” (ala Superbad)
